The voting system

In the UK, members of the public vote either in person at a polling station or send their vote by by post. On election day, polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm. Each person receives a ballot paper, goes to a private booth and the voter marks their choice of candidate. Then the ballot is placed in a sealed box. After polls close, the votes are taken to a counting centreand counted, with the candidate with the most votes is declared the winner.
